What is an evacuation plan?

An evacuation plan is a mandatory graphic document that shows emergency exits, fire safety equipment, and evacuation instructions for a building. It must comply with ISO 7010 standard and be visibly displayed in all public access establishments (ERP) and businesses.

Legal requirements

Evacuation plans are mandatory in:

  • All public access establishments (ERP) category 5 and above
  • Businesses with more than 50 employees
  • Office buildings and condominiums
  • Industrial facilities subject to ICPE regulations

Standards and compliance

Evacuation plans must comply with ISO 7010 standard for safety pictograms. This international standard ensures universal understanding of the symbols used and has been mandatory in France since 2013.
