Why an evacuation plan is mandatory in office buildings

Every office building falls under both the French Labour Code (article R. 4227-37 et seq.) and, when open to the public, the ERP fire-safety regulation — most often type W (administrations, banks, public-facing offices). In both cases, the employer or operator must post legible evacuation plans on each floor and near every exit.

An evacuation plan compliant with NF X 08-070 (fire-incident instructions) using ISO 7010 pictograms must therefore be displayed in circulation areas, updated after every reshuffle and accompanied by general fire-safety instructions. ISO 23601 governs evacuation and intervention plans for complex buildings.

Beyond the legal requirement, the evacuation plan plays a key role during the periodic evacuation drills imposed by article R. 4227-39 of the Labour Code (at least every six months) and during inspections by the safety commission for ERPs subject to authorisation.

Tertiary specifics: multi-floor, open-spaces, flex-office

Modern office buildings raise particular challenges: duplicated floors with varying partitioning, closed meeting rooms, coworking spaces shared between several companies, or flex-office layouts where workstations change weekly. The evacuation plan must reflect the actual configuration, locate emergency exits, enclosed staircases, lifts (not to be used), fire hose reels, extinguishers, manual call points and outdoor assembly areas.

In high-rise buildings (IGH) and multi-tenant buildings, several sets of plans may coexist: an evacuation plan per level for occupants and a global intervention plan for the emergency services. Fabrik handles this multi-floor, multi-building logic from a single workspace, with updates propagated across all relevant levels.

Fast updates after every reshuffle

In offices, layouts evolve quickly: a new partition, a relocated meeting room, a new floor opening. With an online editor like Fabrik, you update the plan in minutes, regenerate the high-resolution PDF and replace the printouts — no more bureau d'études, no more multi-week wait.

Vector exports guarantee perfect legibility at every printing size (A4, A3 or larger), and the version history lets the employer prove their information duty has been met after every site change.

Labour Code + ERP type W compliance

Plans compliant with articles R. 4227-37 et seq. of the French Labour Code and the ERP fire-safety regulation (type W when public is admitted), with general fire-safety instructions per NF X 08-070.

Multi-floor and multi-building plans

Manage one headquarters, several floors and several sites from the same workspace, with floor duplication, global change propagation and ISO 23601 intervention plans for emergency services.

Accessible routes and assembly areas

Mark accessible routes for people with reduced mobility, safe waiting areas (EAS) and outdoor assembly points, in line with accessibility requirements.
